About IRPWA

Irish Republican Prisoner Welfare Association (IRPWA) is an all Ireland body set up to look after the welfare of Republican Prisoners. The IRPWA are not aligned to any political group.

We primarily support:
• Republican Prisoners, Roe 4, Maghaberry
• Female Republican Prisoners Hydebank
• Republican Prisoners, E3/E4, Portlaoise

Our aim:
Is to meet the welfare needs of Republican Prisoners and their families. To this end, we contribute a monthly financial donation and offer other areas of support to the prisoners and their families.

We recognise that the nature of political imprisonment means that Republican Prisoners are constantly engaged in a battle against the state (sic) and its agencies. As a result, Republican Prisoners have steadfastly resisted all policies and attempts to criminalise, degrade and isolate them. We feel it is our duty to assist them by campaigning on their behalf.

Campaigns:

The IRPWA are currently to the fore in organising campaigns such as:

  • Anti-Internment
  • Stop Strip-Searching
  • End Controlled Movement
  • Oppose Isolation
